Brevity is the term used to describe simple/basic english language to convey a sometimes much more complicated message across radio comms to avoid cluttering up the airwaves on multi user frequencies.
In simple terms using as few words as possible to convey the relevant information.
E.G. Why say “This is Colt Flight, We have now made the transition to flying over water” when you can shorten that to “Colt 1, Feet wet” and everyone else listening will understand what you are saying.
The list below contains the minimum BREVITY terms you should know to be able to effectively communicate while flying with 161SQN
BULLSEYE - Fixed point on Battlefield known to all allied forces used as a reference location, can be the centre point for BRAA calls.
BRAA - Tactical control format providing target bearing, range, altitude, and aspect, relative to a friendly aircraft, can also be relative to BULLSEYE.
ANGELS - Height of aircraft in Thousands of Feet. 30000 Feet = Angels 30.
HOMEPLATE - Friendly initial airfield.
UNIFORM - 1. UHF/AM Radio
2. The Letter U in the Phonetic Alphabet
VICTOR - 1. VHF/AM Radio
2. The Letter V in the Phonetic Alphabet
FOX MIKE - VHF/FM Radio
HOTEL FOX - HF Radio
STUD - Pre-Programmed Radio Preset
PUSH (Freq/STUD) - Go to the designated frequency/channel; no response required. E.g. Push Victor 249 (Set VHF to 249.000)
FEET WET/DRY - Flying Over Water/Land.
FENCE IN/OUT - Set cockpit switches as appropriate prior to entering/exiting the combat area.
VISUAL - Visual contact with friendly aircraft/ground position.
BLIND - No visual contact with friendly aircraft/ground position.
TALLY - Aircrew have sighted the target, enemy aircraft or position.
NO JOY - Aircrew does not have visual contact with the target, enemy aircraft or position.
FOX 1 - Friendly Launched Semi Active Radar Seeking Air to Air Missile.
FOX 2 - Friendly Launched Heat Seeking Air to Air Missile.
FOX 3 - Friendly Launched Active Radar Seeking Air to Air Missile.
RAYGUN - Indicates a radar lock-on to unknown aircraft. A request for “BUDDY SPIKE” reply from friendly aircraft meeting these parameters (to prevent fratricide).
BUDDY SPIKE - Friendly aircraft air-to-air indication on RWR. To be followed by position, heading, altitude.
DIRT - Indicates Non-Tracking RWR ground threat displayed followed by clock position and type.
MUD - Indicates Tracking RWR ground threat displayed followed by clock position and type.
NAILS - Indicates Non Tracking RWR air threat displayed followed by clock position and type.
SPIKE - Indicates Tracking RWR air threat displayed followed by clock position and type.
(@@) AWAY - Friendly Air to Ground ordnance released, can be preceded with type of ordanance released. E.g 2 Away
OFF - Normally followed by a Direction Call, e.g. "Off to the North" Air to Ground attack run complete aircraft is turning to the direction indicated as they egress.
MAGNUM - Friendly Anti Radiation Missile Launched.
RIFLE - Friendly Launched an Air to Ground Missile.
SPLASH - (Air to Air) Target destroyed. (Air to Ground) Weapons impact.
WINCHESTER - No ordnance remaining (Does not include Gun).
BINGO - Minimum fuel state needed for aircraft recovery to HOME PLATE.
RTB - Return to Base.

BOGEY - A contact whose identity is unknown.
BANDIT - A Contact that has been positively identified as an ENEMY in accordance with mission criteria.
BOGEY DOPE - Request for information on indicated or closest GROUP in bearing, range, altitude, and aspect (BRAA) format
ANCHOR (Location) - 1. Orbit about a specific point.
2. Refueling track flown by tanker.
ON STATION - Informative call that unit/aircraft has reached assigned station.
OFF STATION - Informative call that unit/aircraft is not in position or no longer performing assigned tasks. Opposite to ON STATION.
LASING - Friendly Unit is operating their Laser designator.
BRUISER - Friendly air launched anti-ship Missile
MADDOG - Visual AIM-120/AIM-54 Launch.
PITBULL - 1. Informative AIM-120 is at MPRF active range.
2. Informative AIM-54 at active range.
MILLER TIME - Completion of A/S ordnance delivery. Generally used by the last striker in conjunction with a pre-coordinated egress plan.
SINGER(with direction and threat type) - SAM Launch detected.
SAM(with direction) - Visual acquisition of a SAM in flight or a SAM launch.
BIRD(with direction) - Friendly SAM
ARIZONA - No ARM Ordnance remaining.
JOKER - Fuel state above BINGO at which separation/bugout/event termination should begin.
